How We Met (An Interview on Shannon Taylor Vannatter's Blog)

Shannon here: C. Kevin Thompson shares how he and his wife met, along with how his character’ meet, and an excerpt from his Supernatural/Mystery/Suspense novel, The Letters. • How did you and your wife meet? 

That’s an interesting question. We were in high school and had the same PE class period. The year was 1977. Cindy was in 9th grade, and I was in 10th. I was chosen to help her do handstands (this was back in the day of the “President’s Physical Fitness Award” program). I finally got up the nerve to ask her out. We went to the movies and saw American Graffiti. Seems so long ago now.

Kevin is a Guest on Heather Greer's "Write Stuff Wednesday"

I was invited to be a part of fellow author Heather Greer's Write Stuff Wednesday blog. In these blogs, authors share a quote that has resonated with them and helped shape their writing, their life, or both.

Here was my contribution:

“Everything has a purpose, or premise. Every second of our life has its own premise, whether or not we are conscious of it at the time. That premise may be as simple as breathing or as complex as a vital emotional decision, but it is always there.”

If you read this quote out of context, you may think it’s from a theologian or Bible teacher. Rick Warren would surely agree. Other experts in other fields would as well. However, the quote comes from the very beginning of Lajos Egri’s The Art of Dramatic Writing: Its Basis in the Creative Interpretation of Human Motives. He goes on to acknowledge that some writers may call it a “goal.” Others refer to it as a “root-idea” or a “theme.” Others still ask the question, “How can you tell what road to take unless you know where you are going?” In the end, however, they are all talking about purpose, or premise.

When Your Pity Party Gets Crashed (A CAN Blog Post)

This Christmas season, my wife and I went to the beach, a post-Christmas, Merry-Christmas-to-us present. We arrived on Friday afternoon and talked about what we could do and where we could go for our fortieth anniversary in 2021. We continued the discussion the next morning until we received a series of text messages. They came from our middle daughter, whose family was staying with us. A tree had fallen and wiped out our power line.

Pictures depicted how the line had bent the mast pole, yanked the lines out of the meter box, and fried the inside to the point the metal leads had burned all the way through and separated. I called our daughter, and she said somehow there was still partial power to the back of the house. I then instructed her on how to shut down the main breaker. And hurry!

Kevin's Podcast Interview with Stacey Horan of "The Bookshop at the End of the Internet"

I have to admit, I've done a podcast interviews in the past. one was with a group of authors on a conference call with the interviewer. I did a little talking, but the pressure was off as I listened to the other writers answer questions of the host.

However, when you are "the author," and there are no others to fill in the gaps, it can be a little nerve-racking. I have to admit, you hear it in my voice. The consummate introvert taking a calming breath before launching into an answer, hoping he doesn't sound like an introvert. :-)

Nevertheless, Stacey did an excellent job, asked some great questions, and was able to pack a great deal into a half hour.

My interview is episode #40. There are 39 more you can check out after you listen to mine. :-) Most of these authors I do not know, but it's cool to "get to know them" and find out more about them and their works (just like the interviews I do here on this blog). I did meet one of the authors, Mark Wayne Adams (episode #18), at a book awards festival in Miami, Florida, back in 2013. We both received awards that night. Small world.
